A Night of Miracles presented by McKesson, Guardian and I.D.A
October 13, 2018
$200
Join us and our special guest: CRF’s 2018 CRF Youth Ambassador, Bernard!
During Bernard’s appointments at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children you’ll find him running up and down the hallways, practicing his jump shot and perfecting his lay-up.
His basketball skills are pretty impressive, especially for someone who was never expected to walk.
Bernard was born with a proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD). The condition affects how the hip joint and leg develop. Just before entering the first grade, Bernard underwent a complete hip disarticulation which removed his right leg. Only a small percentage of people with this rare amputation walk independently.
But the 12-year-old is determined to show others that disability is not a barrier.
“My dream is to be the youngest Paralympians,” he beams.
CRF is helping pursue those dreams. His new prosthetic leg–equipped with a hydraulic control system funded by the foundation–allows him to run. This past year, Bernard also received a high-performance sledge so he can progress as a hockey player.
“I want people to know that if you have a disability or know someone who has a disability, do not doubt them. If they put their minds to it. They can do anything!”
With your support of A Night of Miracles, we can make more dreams come true.
