Winnipeg Ice female hockey team’s efforts are a huge win for a local youth

The Winnipeg Ice U18 AAA hockey team raised the bar on their fundraising during the 2024 Michael Gerl CanPlay Hockey Classic. The sports team raised $4,000 to support the purchase of a specialized bike for a student in the Pembina Trails School Division.

“We are very proud of our players and families on what they were able to raise to make someone’s life a little more enjoyable,” said head coach Eugene Kaminsky. “It was a great opportunity for the players to see what they can do to positively impact other people lives.”

The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation has received over 80 requests this year for adapted bikes, either for individual youth with disabilities or for program bikes in schools. For young Eric and his family, this gift was very meaningful.

“The artwork Eric and his family gifted the team as a thank you, was a great representation of how impactful a donation is,” explained Kaminsky. “With Eric’s handprint as the flower, the stem represented the support Eric requires to make his life more enjoyable, and as his mom explained, the Winnipeg Ice were Eric’s support and stem so the flower can grow and stand.”

The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation is grateful to the Winnipeg Ice players, coaches, family members and supporters for their tremendous efforts and generosity.

“The absolute best days for our organization are bringing together funders and equipment recipients. It was special to share this experience with the Ice team … it’s a wonderful example of young fundraisers in action,” said Jane Kidd-Hantscher, CRF Executive Director.
